“Have you seen her? Tell me, have you seen her?” If you are from Chicago or you are a Soul music fan, you are probably familiar with those lines from the famous group the Chi-Lites.

Before they were the known doo-wop group that we’ve come to love, they were a couple of teenagers who were looking for their first big break. Their first taste of stardom came when they were known as the Hi-Lites signed to my grandfather’s record label, Daran Records. Early in their career, he served as their manager and their producer.

James Shelton is the CEO of Daran Records. In the 1960s, his label had some success in the gospel, blues, and soul scene.

I produced this documentary to share his story and to have a record of all of his great musical accomplishments.
